OAK FRAME DESIGN
Oak framed houses.
Each project we take on is a unique creation, developed through a close partnership between you and our team. With a strong foundation in timber craftsmanship we’re proud to bring the same care and attention to detail to oak frame houses.
Whether traditional or contemporary, large or small, every oak frame home we create is built with genuine passion and integrity.
Over the years we have recognised that every build is different and everyone’s needs and situations are unique. Some self-builders already have their own architect on board and simply employ us to design, manufacture and construct their oak frame homes, other’s look to utilise our extensive experience of the industry to help guide their design.
The most critical stage in the creation of a new home is the design. It must above all conform to the needs and wants of the customer, but also needs to look right on its site and comply with planning requirements. All our designs are executed by our experienced design team who understand both architectural principles and timber framing.
Our frame designers use bespoke ‘state of the art’ software, Framewright, to create 2 dimensional frame drawings and a visually accurate 3D model of their frame. Whatever your design needs, we have the experience and expertise to enable you to turn your dreams into a reality.
Oak Frame Houses FAQs
Are oak frame houses more energy-efficient than traditional builds?
Yes, oak frame houses can be energy efficient due to a number of factors, including the insulation system, airtightness, glazing and overall build quality.
How long does it take to construct a full oak frame home?
It depends on the requirements and, of course, the scale of the overall project. We work closely with our clients to fully understand their needs from the outset and turn their plans into reality within the required timescales. We also use specialist tools alongside modern power tools and software, which enables us to work efficiently and pay the closest attention to detail.
What are the key design considerations when planning an oak frame house?
Planning an oak frame house is just as much about structural logic and movement as it is about the aesthetics. Oak behaves differently to brick and steel, so making informed design decisions from the outset is crucial. Thanks to our extensive experience, we can guide and advise you every step of the way.
Can oak homes be built to meet modern insulation and airtightness standards?
Yes, oak homes can meet (and exceed) modern insulation and airtightness standards. While the oak frame itself doesn’t provide insulation, the building envelope that’s designed around it can help meet UK Buildings Regulations Part L compliance, EPC A ratings and near-Passivhaus levels (when designed carefully).
Is mortgage lending straightforward for oak frame new builds?
Yes, mortgage lending is generally straightforward for oak frame new builds because it is no different to standard construction. Most mainstream lenders will consider oak frame homes.
